Academy of Fine Arts and Literature founded in 1975 by Ajeet and Arpana Caur at 4/6, Siri Fort Institutional Area, New Delhi, is one of the principal centres of literary, art and cultural activities in Delhi.
Besides holding a weekly talk on the philosophy of Ramu Gandhi and series of lectures addressing other intellectual and academic interests, it organizes monthly meets of poets and from time to time, interactions of artists and art critics, SAARC writers’ and performers’ meets in India and other SAARC Countries, and free vocational training programs for women of low income groups. Ajeet Cour, renowned writer, being its Chairperson, the Institute also houses the principal office of the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature. It has a good library and reading hall, gallery for temporary exhibitions, and three Museums with excellent collections of miniatures, folk and decorative art objects, Tantra paintings and textiles, and a Museum of Arpana Caur’s paintings of different periods. It has also begun publication of art books. ‘The Magic Makers’, a book on folk arts, is its third publication, besides several books of SAARC literature and a quarterly journal
‘Beyond Borders’. Other publications are ‘The Magic of. Indian Miniatures’ (the Academy Miniature collection) & ‘The Magic Makers’ (the Academy Folk and Tribal Art collection). All three Museums are open and free of charge to the public from 11a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, as is the library and reading room.
The present book documents Arpana’s works in the Arpana Fine Arts Museum and other collections, with articles by some of the finest art writers covering various phases of her work.
