Within three centuries, seven west-coast islands evolved into the Bombay peninsula, then into a flourishing centre for trade, ultimately becoming the cosmopolitan, high-rise metropolis of Mumbai. Marg celebrates 50 years of publishing with a special volume on the city of its birth. In three sections, richly illustrated with much hitherto unpublished material by early painters, map-makers, and photographers that reconstructs images of the past, plus a series of modern architectural photographs, the book highlights momentous changes to the cityscape. As a lasting tribute to Marg’s visionary patron, this volume on his city is dedicated to J.R.D. Tata.
