Images in Harmony is a side-by-side portrait of the rich cultural legacies of Paris and Calcutta. It is not a comparison, but rather an attempt to share a vision—where the ordinary scenes of everyday life in two very different cities transcend into haunting, harmonious images.
Shyamal Roy lived in both Paris and Calcutta for many years. Over a span of 20 years, he captured the moods, ambiance, and soul of these two great cities. If photography is about “painting with light,” Shyamal has attempted to paint the rich spectrum of emotions evoked by these urban landscapes.
Despite their differences, Paris and Calcutta share a surprising number of similarities. Both cities have, over the centuries, inspired brilliant poets, painters, artists, authors, filmmakers, singers, musicians, and philosophers—creators who have brought joy to people around the world.
Images in Harmony is an extraordinary journey through Paris and Calcutta—two dignified cities with immense cultural souls.
